Service instructions

IS-14 · manual generator start-up
  1. Energize the panel with the MAIN switch.
  2. Open BLEED and wait for the air gauge to drop to zero. Close it before continuing.
  3. Prime with the OIL PUMP until the gauge is in the green band (2.5 – 3.5 bar). Do not exceed 4 bar: the relief valve will trip.
  4. Hold PREHEAT for 3 seconds until the lamp turns green.
  5. Hold START until the engine catches. 8 seconds maximum at a time.
  6. Set the GOVERNOR to 1500 r.p.m. and close COUPLE with the voltmeter in band.
Errata · annex 3 On units with the Barreiros C-24 engine, the preheat time in step 4 is 6 seconds. At 3 seconds the glow plug doesn't reach temperature and the engine won't catch no matter how long you hold the starter.

GENERATOR UNIT NO. 2

Unit 1 has been stripped down for two months. Upstairs, in operating room 3, the ventilator is running on battery and has four minutes left. The panel has seven controls, and on the wall there's the service instructions, with its errata sheet pinned next to it. The engine doesn't start by brute persistence: it starts in order.
