A coin from 1780 turned up in the section at over two metres down, almost level with the Roman wall. The site surveyor says that dates the wall, and that it can be torn down. Before anyone signs off, the seven units in the profile need ordering, and depth alone won't do it: what matters is what touches what, and above all what cuts what.
